10. A charge of 1uCis divided into two parts such that their charges are in the ratio of 2:3. These two charges are kept at a distance 1m apart in vacuum. Then, the electric force between them -
(in Newtons) is
1) 0.216
2) 0.00216
3) 0.0216
4) 2.16

Concept

  • Charge is an intrinsic property of protons and electrons
  • An electric force is the interplay of either attracting or repulsive forces between two charged substances. This force is comparable to other forces in that it affects and effects a specific item, and it is easily shown by Newton's law of motion. Electric force is one of the forces that act on other bodies.

Given

  • Charge given is 1uc
  • Ratio of the charges given is 2:3

Find

We need to find the electric force between the two charges

Solution

According to the statement

Total charge = 1 uc

Ratio  = 2 : 3

∴ 2x + 3x = 1 uc

∴ x = 1/5 uc

Charge 1 = 2*1/5 = 2/5 uc

Charge 2 = 3*1/5 = 3/5 uc

F = \frac{KQ_1Q_2}{R^2}

= 9*10^9*\frac{2}{5}*1*10^{-6}* \frac{3}{5}*10^{-6} / 1^2

=2.16*10^{-3}

= 2.16 / 1000

= 0.00216

Hence the electric force between them is 0.00216
