Contributions made by Munshi Premchand to Indian literature are immense. He contributed to Indian literature in the following ways:
He wrote about 12 famous novels and more than 250 short stories. He thus enriched the Urdu and the Hindi literature.
His novel 'sewasadan' was an important landmark in the Hindi literature as it began a new era of literature that was focused on the plight of poor people, caste indiscrimination and social reforms.
He by his novels and short stories threw light on the plight of the Indian women and supported various social reform movements like female education, widow remarriage etc.
In around 1920's inspired by the non cooperation movement, he wrote several stories highlighting the need of young men to join the Indian national movement.
He used the literature to create awareness about other social issues like prostitution, poverty, feudalism, dowry system etc.
Premchand thus by the use of simple language and lucid style of writing influenced and enriched the Hindi literature.
