10. Describe the various types of placentations found in flowering plants.
Answers
Answer:
There are five types of placentation that occurs in flowering plants i.e. axile, marginal, parietal, basal, superficial placentation.
a)Axile -ovules are borne at or around the center of a compound ovary on an axis formed from joined septa
b)marginal-Marginal placentation is observed in plants whose ovules are lined up along a ridge on one side of the ovary
c) parietal-the ovules develop on the inner wall of the ovary. The ovary is one-chambered, but it becomes two-chambered due to the formation of the false septum.
d)basal-one or more ovules are attached to the bottom of the ovary. This situation is found for example in some Portulacaceae
e) superficial-the gynoecium is multicarpellary syncarpous and a large number of ovules are borne on the walls of the loculi without specific order
