Given :- If out of 360 days weather forecast in a year only 280 days weather forecast tally, then

(i) What is the probability of a day selected at random to be a tallied weather forecast.

(ii) What is the probability of a day selected at random to be a day which does not tally

weather forecast. .

Solution :-

→ Total days weather forecast = Total number of outcomes = 360 days

→ Total days weather forecast tally = Total favourable outcomes = 280 days .

so,

→ The probability of a day selected at random to be a tallied weather forecast = Total favourable outcomes / Total number of outcomes = 280 / 360 = 7/9 (Ans.)

and,

→ The probability of a day selected at random to be a day which does not tally weather forecast. = 1 - The probability of a day selected at random to be a tallied weather forecast = 1 - 7/9 = 2/9 (Ans.)

Given:

If out of 360 days weather forecast in a year only 280 days weather forecast tally.

To find:

(i) What is the probability of a day selected at random to be a tallied weather forecast.

(ii) What is the probability of a day selected at random to be a day which does not tally weather forecast.

Solution:

It is given that if out of 360 days weather forecast in a year only 280 days weather forecast tally.

Total outcomes = 360

(i) What is the probability of a day selected at random to be a tallied weather forecast.

weather forecast tally = 280 days

P(E) = \dfrac{280}{360}

=> \dfrac{14}{18}

=> \dfrac{7}{9}

Hence, the probability of a day selected at random to be a tallied weather forecast is => \dfrac{7}{9}

(ii) What is the probability of a day selected at random to be a day which does not tally weather forecast.

weather forecast does not tally = 360 - 280 = 80 days

P(E) = \dfrac{80}{360}

=> \dfrac{4}{18}

=> \dfrac{2}{9}

Hence, the probability of a day selected at random to be a day which does not tally weather forecast is => \dfrac{2}{9}
