Find the length of the rhombus be x.

Find the length:

Perimeter = 4 x Length

40 = 4 x Length

Length = 40 ÷ 4 = 10 cm

Find the altitude:

Area = length x altitude

84 = 10 x altitude

Altitude = 84 ÷ 10 = 8.4 cm

Answer: The altitude is 8.4 cm
