SOLUTION:-

Answer

• Area of trapezium is 750cm²

Given

• Parallel sides are 58cm and 42cm

• Other two sides are 17 cm

To find

• Area of trapezium

Explanation

We know that,

Area of trapezium = 1/2×(Sum of parallel sides)× height

Let us Draw a perpendicular AE and BF from the vertex A and B onto the opposite side CD

( Shown in figure)

Since,

ACE is a right angled triangle

As AB and CD are parallel , when perpendicular are drawn ,

AB = EF = 42

Then

The remaining CE and FD will be

➡️ 58-42 / 2

➡️ 16/2

➡️ 8 cm

Now,

By pythagoras Theorem

For Triangle ACE

AC²= AE² + CE²

➡️ 17² = AE² + 8²

➡️ 289 = AE² + 64

➡️ 289-64 = AE²

➡️ 225 = AE²

➡️ AE = √225

➡️ AE = 15cm

Similarly

By pythagoras theorem

For Triangle BDF

DB² = BF²+ DF²

➡️ 17²= BF²+8²

➡️ 289 = BF²+64

➡️ 289-64=BF²

➡️ BF²= 225

➡️ BF= √225

➡️ BF = 15cm

Height = 15cm

Area of trapezium = 1/2(a+b)×h

➡️ 1/2×(58+42)×15

➡️ 1/2×100×15

Area = 750cm²
