10 whole 1/2 tonnes of sand are to be shared between a number of builders. One of them receives 4/7 of the total and the remaining sand is shared by 3 builders. How much does the fourth builder receive and how much sand
does each of the other 3 builders receive?​

i.e. he receives:

4/7 of 21/2 tonnes

= 4/7*21/2

=6 tonnes.

and the remaining sand is shared by 3 builders .

This means that 3/7 of total sand will be shared by the 3 builders.

i.e. they receive, 3/7 of 21/2 tonnes of sand

i.e. 3/7*21/2

= 9/2 tonnes of sand.

If each share the sand equally.Then the sand that each of the three builder receive = 9/2 ÷ 3

= 3/2 tonnes of sand.
