ANSWER

Unification of Italy

1)In between the years, 1815 to 1871 some small countries came together to form a larger country called The kingdom of Italy. And Rome became the capital of the Kingdom of Italy.

2) Actually, this unification can be defined in 4 stages=>

i)Napoleon's Defeat.

-During the year of 1796 when Napoleon was in his full power, he divided Italy into 2 parts to control it.

-But soon after the defeat of Napolean in the Waterloo-led a path for the unification of Italy.

ii)Sardinia's Conquest

-Victor Emmanuel Piedmont-Sardinia saw a great vision for the unification of Italy.

-He started to aware of people and did rallies, public works, reforms etc.

-He then decided to remove Austria from the Italian peninsula.

- Soon the Crimean War broke out between France and Britain on one side and Russia on the other. He saw this as a chance to earn respect and a name for It. After the war, Britain and France won and Sardinia was able to attend this peace conference. This resulted in gaining the support of Napoleon III by them.

iii)War with Austria

-During the year 1858 Sardinia and Italy together planned to attack Austria for the unification.

-This led to the defeat of Austria in battles of Magenta and Solferino.

-Austria was driven out of Lombardy but they still held on Venetia.

-Later French opt out of this war and this war resulted in the keeping of Venetia with Austria.

iv)Full Unification

-Later an Italian nationalist Giuseppe Garibaldi led an uprising for the unification of territories and states into a republic.

-Since Sardinia ended the war, Giuseppe gave most provinces to them.

-At last in March 1861 the parliament of all of Italy declared its unification except for Rome and Venetia.

And Victor Emmanuel was made the first king of Unified Italy.

 \sf{\underline {EXPLANATION}} :

The credit for Unification of Italy goes to the Sardinia Prime Minister, Cavour, who like the German Chancellor Bismarck before him, adopted a similar policy of war and diplomacy.

By supporting France and England against Russia in the Crimean was, Cavour had extracted their reciprocal support against Austria. In 1859 A. D., he attacked Austria and got Lombardy for Sardinia. Meanwhile Garibaldi marched into the Island of Sicily, with his revolutionary forces and liberated these kingdoms to join Sardinia.

In 1870 A. D., France vacated Rome during the Franco - Prussian War. Thus, Rome also became a part of Sardinia and in this way the final unification of Italy was also achieved in 1871 A. D.
