Ans. The British Rule used India as both as a source of cheap raw material as well as easily accessible market for their well finished products. Thereby, they imposed heavy tariffs on India's export of handicraft products, while allowed free export of India's raw material to Britain, and free import of British products to India.

Ans. The general service enlistment act of 1856 provided that all the sepoys of the Bengal army should be ready for service anywhere within or outside India. The Bengal army mainly consisted of the soldiers of high caste like Brahmin and Rajputs. Under the provisions of the Act, they could be sent overseas and Sea Voyage was against the accepted belief of a Brahmin. So, the Indian troops considered the act as a disregard to their feeling.
