Telangana, carved out of the combined State of Andhra Pradesh on June 2, 2014 to become the 29th State, is celebrating its first Formation Day. The week-long festivities come to a close on Sunday.

The Capital has been decked up with colourful lights and flags all over. The main venues for the celebrations are the Tank Bund and Necklace Road abutting the Hussainsagar that separates Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

The formation of a new state "Telangana" was due to the indifference between the people of Andhra Pradesh. After various struggles and protests, the state was divided into two. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

History:

The Congress Working Committee passed a resolution for the formation of a separate Telangana state. The bill was placed in the Parliament in February 2014.

The state was formed on 2nd June 2014 and Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao was the first chief minister of the newly formed state of Telangana. The capital city was shared between the two states but will become the independent capital of Telangana after 10 years.

Celebration:

Every year on 2nd June, celebrations occur in all 30 districts and formal events take place recognizing the formation of the state. Flag hoisting and a parade is presided over by the chief minister.
