to drive v = u + at by graphical method

Consider the velocity time graph of a body.

The body has initial velocity at point A= u (OA)

Time = t (oc)

Uniform acceleration = a ( AB)

Therefore, final velocity = v (BC)

But from graph

BC =BD + CD

=> v = BD + u ( since OA = CD = u)...... (i)

We know that the slope of a velocity time graph is equal to acceleration

AB = BD / AD

=> a = BD/t........(ii)

Putting the values of the equation (ii) in equation (i)

v = BD +u

v = at + u
