Displacement is the shortest path between two points

Explanation:

  • Displacement is a vector quantity having magnitude as well as direction
  • It calculate the shortest path between two points
  • It depends on initial and final position of any body and not on path followed by it
  • Its SI unit is meter(m) same as that of distance
  • Its value can be positive, negative and zero
  • We get zero displacement when initial and final points coincide for example in case body moved along the circumference of the circle
  • Displacement can never be greater than the distance covered it will be less than or equal to distance covered between the same initial and final points
