Yes we think that Peterson was too naïve and a very honest man because in this story , we can see that he tried to break through and protected the stranger from his assailants. when the man dropped his hat and goose, Peterson brought them both to Sherlock. when the goose isn't claimed,Peterson takes it to his family to eat. but after they cook the goose ,they discover the blue carbuncle inside it . A less honest man might have sold it for his own profit, but Peterson isn't that kind of man, and he brings the stone to Holmes .
