It works synergistically with human placental lactogen (hPL), which is a hormone secreted by the placenta that promotes mammary gland growth in preparation for lactation. hPL also raises maternal blood glucose levels, which help ensure sufficient nutrients are available for the fetus.

Placenta is a tube like structure attached to the fetus and the other. When the implantation occurs, the outer layer of blastocyst become trophoblast which forms the outer layer of the placenta.

The placenta stays attached with the mother and the fetus through out the pregnancy.

These are the hormones which are released by placenta:

- Lactogen

- Oestrogen

- Progesterone

The function of the placenta is to filter oxygen and blood for the fetus and also protect the baby from infectious agents.

The placenta begins to develop upon implantation of the blastocyst into the maternal endometrium. The outer layer of the blastocyst becomes the trophoblast, which forms the outer layer of the placenta. ... The placenta grows throughout pregnancy.
