Whenever HCL reacts with any active metal,hydrogen gas is released.

Example:2K +2HCL gives rise to 2KCl + H2

Test for the gas liberated:

Bring a glowing splinter near the test tube, it will burn with a pop sound.This proves Hydrogen gas is released.
