Given,

A rectangular hall has dimensions:

Length = 40 m,

Width = 30 m.

Square tiles have side = 50 cm = 0.5 m.

To find,

The number of tiles requires to cover the hall floor.

Solution,

Firstly, let the number of tiles required to cover the floor be 'n'.

Now, it can be seen that the total area of the floor will have to be covered by the tiles, that is,

n×(area of one tile) = area of the floor     ...(1)

Since the side of a tile is 0.5 m. So,

area of one tile = (side)² = (0.5)² = 0.25 m².

area of one tile = 0.25 m².

Now, for the floor,

length = 40 m,

width = 30 m.

The area of the floor of the hall will be

= length×width

= 40×30

= 1200 m².

From eq. (1), we have,

n×(0.25) = 1200

\implies n=\frac{1200}{0.25}

n = 4800.

Therefore, the number of tiles required to cover the floor of the hall will be 4800.
