let base be x and altitude be 2x

therefore, x × 2x=72cm^2

2x^2=72cm^2

x^2= 72/2

x^2= 36

so, x=6 CM

base= 6cm

6×h=72cm^2

h= 72/6

= 12cm

therefore,the length of the base is 6cm
