lange trees bearing rich fruits and bushes of gorgeous flowers,
Soon she noticed a group of people coming towards her. They seemed
much shorter than any of the grown-ups Dorothy had known
When these people drew near Dorothy, they paused and whispered
among themselves, as it afraid to come farther. But a little old woman
walked up to Dorothy, made a low bow and said
"You are welcome, most noble Sorceress, to the land of the Munchkins,
We are so grateful to you for killing the Wicked Witch of the East and
setting our people, the Munchkins, free from bondage."
Dorothy listened to this speech with wonder. What could the little
woman possibly mean? Dorothy was an innocent, harmless little girl,
who had never killed anything in all her life.
