we get,

44q - 28p = 4

63q - 28p = 42

----------------------

-19q = -38

q = 2 [ put in ----( 1 ) ]

we get,

11(2) - 7p = 1

22 - 7p = 1

7p = 22 - 1

7p = 21

p = 21/7 = 3

so, put the values of p & q

p = 3 = 1/x & q = 2 = 1/y

x = 1/3 & y = 1/2
