Question :

towards the left; he then travels 5 km to the right and then

travels 6km towards the left and finally travels 2km towards the

east. How far is he from starting point in the vertical direction ?

(A) 30 km

(B) 42 km

(C) 20 km

(D) 27 km

Choose the correct alternative .

Answer :

The person's distance from starting point in the vertical direction is 27 km .

Option (D) 27 km is correct .

Given :

The person travels 5 km towards the west and then travels 21 km

towards the left.

He then travels 5 km to the right and then travels 6km towards the left and finally travels 2km towards the East.

To find :

His distance from starting point in the vertical direction

Solution :

According the problem , we can find the total distance covered by the man in vertical direction is when he travels 21 km towards the left after travelling 5km towards the West and 6km towards the left after travelling 5 km to the right . ( Referring to the attached picture will help )

Hence, his distance from starting point in the vertical direction = ( 21 + 6) km

= 27 km

Therefore, the person's distance from starting point in the vertical direction is 27 km .
