Given:

The equations: x + 2y = 4; 3x – 2y = 4.

Take 2 cm = 1 unit on each axis.

To find:

Solve graphically, the following equations.

x + 2y = 4; 3x – 2y = 4.

Also, find the area of the triangle formed by  the lines and the x-axis.

Solution:

From given, we have,

The equations: x + 2y = 4; 3x – 2y = 4.

Consider the attached figure for the graphical representation of the above equations.

Area of triangle = 1/2 × base × height

= 1/2 × (4 - 1.333) × (1 - 0)

= 1/2 × 2.667 × 1

= 1.667 cm²

Therefore, the area of triangle formed by the  by  the lines and the x-axis. is 1.667 cm²
