Mg + 2HCl----> MgCl2 + H2

Therefore, if there are 'n' moles of magnesium then on reaction with acid like HCl will give 'n' moles of dihydrogen gas.
No. of moles = Mass of substance/Molar mass of substance
Therefore, No. of moles of 12 gm of Mg = 1/2 moles.
Now, volume occupied by one mole of dihydrogen gas at stp = 22.4 litres
Therefore, volume occupied by half mole of dihydrogen gas = 11.2 litres
