[13 + (-12)} + (________) = 13 + [(-12) + (-7)]

To find,

The missing figure

Solution,

The question can be solved using ± x as an unknown quantity

[13 + ( -12)] + (x) =  13  + [(-12) + (-7)]

Solving RHS = 13 + [-19]

                   = -6

Solving LHS = 13 - 12 + x

                    = 1 + x

LHS should be equal to RHS

1 + x = -6

x = -6-1

x = -7

The blank will be filled with -7

[ 13 + ( - 12) ] + ( - 7 ) = 13 + [ ( - 12) + ( - 7) ]

Given :

The expression [ 13 + ( - 12) ] + (___) = 13 + [ ( - 12) + ( - 7) ]

To find :

To fill in the blank

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Write down the given expression

The given expression is

[ 13 + ( - 12) ] + (___) = 13 + [ ( - 12) + ( - 7) ]

Step 2 of 2 :

Fill in the blank

Associative property under addition states that for three integers a , b , c

( a + b ) + c = a + ( b + c )

We take a = 13 , b = - 12 , c = - 7

Then above becomes

[ 13 + ( - 12) ] + ( - 7 ) = 13 + [ ( - 12) + ( - 7) ]

Hence the number in blank is - 7
