Question:

_______________

13. A man is four times as old as his son. After 20 years, he will be twice as old as hisson at that time. Find their present ages

Answer:

__________

10 years, 40 years

Explanation:

_______________

Let the son's age be x years.

His father's age = 4x years

After 20 years,

Son's age = ( x + 20 ) years

Father's age = ( 4x + 20 ) years

A/q,

4x + 20 = 2( x + 20 )

4x + 20 = 2x + 40

4x - 2x = 40 - 20

2x = 20

x = 20/2

x = 10

Hence,

Son's present age = x = 10 years

Father's present age = 4x = ( 4 × 10 ) years = 40 years
