It is true, The ending of the story. The Enemy epitomizes the attitude of a Japanese towards Americans during the war. Japan was represented by Dr. Sadao, Hana, and their servants. Three of them were magnanimous. Dr. Sadao, not only saved the POW, but also helped him escape.  

As a doctor he did justice to his profession by adhering to the Hippocratic Oath. He saved a very young life; he was basically a kind man. Kindness is the quality of great souls. We can say Sadao and Hana rose above the parochial thinking and did something that can be termed as humane. This humaneness is the beauty of mankind, and this was reflected in the Japanese attitude.
