Fear has been the theme of this novel from the very start. The villagers and the owners of inn are afraid of the protagonists. The invisible man is also afraid of getting caught. This fear makes him leave the village and his home. the protagonist takes the sadist pleasure in hurting the people and scaring them off. He even beats up the villagers and kills an old man with no remorse.
