40 Nm is the required answer.

GIVEN:

  • Applied force, f = 20 N

  • Displacement, d = 200 cm

TO FIND:

Work done , w

FORMULA:

Work done , w = f × d

SOLUTION:

STEP 1 : TO CONVERT DISPLACEMENT IN STANDARD UNIT:

  • Standard unit of displacement is metre, m

  • 1 cm = 10 ^-2 m

  • 200 cm = 200 × 10^-2 m

  • Displacement , d = 2 m

STEP 2 : TO FIND WORK DONE:

w = f \times d \\  \\ w = 20 \times 2 \\  \\ w = 40 \: joules

ANSWER:

Work done by the force applied by Pradeep is 40 joules or 40 Nm.

WORK:

  • Work done is equal to the product of force and displacement.

  • It is a scalar quantity . It has magnitude and no direction.

  • The scalar or dot product of force and displacement gives work done.

  • When force and displacement are in same direction, the work done is positive.

  • The work done is negative, if force and displacement are in opposite direction.

  • When force and displacement are perpendicular to each other, then there is no work done. Work done is zero.
