You have to consider a common multiple for ratios. Let's consider 'x'.

Today's ages :

Rahul - 3x

Rohit - 7x

After 5 years :

( Just add 5 in today's ages)

Rahul - 3x+5

Rohit - 7x+5

Apply the condition. i.e after 5 years ratio will be 1:2.

(3x+5 / 7x+5) = (1/2)

Solve the equation and you will get,

x = 5

Now, put the value of x in today's ages,

Rahul = 3 × 5 = 15 years

Rohit = 7×5 = 35 years

Finally, calculate the difference,

35 - 15 = 20 years

Ans. The difference between their ages is

20 years
