then

the collection from rs 3 tickets are rs 3x

therefore the passengers who have 10 rs tickets are (40-x)

then collection from rs 10 tickets are rs 10(40-x)

now

=>3x + 10(40-x) = 295

=>3x + 400 - 10x = 295

=>400 - 7x = 295

=>-7x = 295-400

=>-7x= -105

=>7x = 105

=>x = 105/7
