COOCH BEHAR, July 24 : A Daring Bank robbery was committed in the Cooch Behar Bazaar Branch of United Bank of India on 23rd July at 2 p.m. just before the public transaction was being closed. According to the Manager of the bank four armed men raided the bank by snatching the rifle from the guard on duty at the gate. They broke open the lockers and took away jewelleries and cash worth about forty lakhs. The customers and the staff at the counter was silenced at a gun point. The miscreants threw bomb while escaping in a white maruti van waiting at the other side of the road opposite the bank. The police were immediately informed of the incident but no arrest could be made till the report reached the press.

Early yesterday morning, on the 12th of July, a huge robbery took place at one of the private banks of the city. The Bank of ....... which was located at the corner-most part of the main market had been a target of the robbery. Cash from the registers as well as from the manager's room were taken, cabinets were forced open and numerous piles of paper were also left burning. The security guards had been knocked out so it is suspected that the robbery had been pre-planned and also consists of more than 3 people.
As of now, the police has had no leads regarding this incident but it is hoped that they will get some information in the coming days. They also requested the public to come forward to them if they hear or know any news regarding this robbery.
