★ The Face Value of a digit is the digit itself, irrespective of where it is located in the number. As an example, in 5336, the face value of 5 is 5 itself.

★The Place Value of a digit varies on where it is placed/located in the number . Example:

In 5336, the place value of 5 is 5000.

Now, in 1342, the digit at the thousands place is 1.

So, it’s face value is 1.

And it’s place value is 1000.

Difference between place value and face value = Place Value - Face Value

= 1000 - 1

= 999

Therefore, the difference between the place value and the face value is 999.
