Question:

Lakshmi is a cashier in a bank. She has currency notes of denominations  ₹100, ₹50 and ₹10. The ratio of the number of these notes is 2:3:5 respectively. The total cash with Lakshmi is ₹4,00,000. How many  notes of each denomination does she have?

Solution:

Let the number of ₹100 notes be 2x

Let the number of ₹50 notes be 3x

Let the number of ₹10 notes be 5x

To find the number of notes Lakshmi has, we need to multiply the money with its respective ratio

2x\times100=200x

3x\times50=150x

5x\times10=50x

Total cash Lakshmi has = ₹4,00,000

200x+150x+50x=4,00,000

400x=4,00,000

x=\frac{4,00,000}{400}

x=1,000

So, Lakshmi has 2,000 notes of ₹200, 3,000 notes of ₹50 and 5,000 notes of ₹10.
