Qᴜᴇsᴛɪᴏɴ :-

A and B each has some money. If A gives Rs. 30 to B then B will have twice the money left with A. But if B gives Rs. 10 to A then A will have thrice as much as is left with B.

Sᴏʟᴜᴛɪᴏɴ :-

Let the amount of money which A has be ’x’ and which B has be ‘y'

  • According to 1st condition :-

If A gives Rs 30 to B, then B will have twice the money left with A.

y + 30 = 2(x – 30)

y + 30 = 2x – 60

y = 2x -60-30

y = 2x – 90 --------- (1)

  • According to 2nd Condition :-

If B gives Rs 10 to A, then A will have thrice as much as is left with B

x + 10 = 3(y - 10)

x +10 = 3y -30

x = 3y - 30 - 10

x = 3y - 40 --------- (2)

Substituting ‘x’ from eq2 in eq1

y = 2(3y-40) – 90

y = 6y - 80 – 90

y - 6y =- 80 – 90

-5y = -170

y = -170/-5

y = Rs. 34

Substitute value of y in eq. 2,

x = 3(34) - 40

Thus, x = 102 – 40 = Rs. 62

Hence

  • A = 62

  • B = 34
