X+Y=100

X loses half of the money=x-. x/2=x/2

Y loses 2/3 of the money so Y has y-. 2y/3=y/3

together they constitute 40 after losing

x/2+y/3=40

3x+2y=240 ........(1)

x+y=100

2x+2y=200........(2)

(1)-(2)

3x-2x+2y-2y=240-200

x=40

x+y=100

40+y=100

so y=60

X has x=40₹

Y has y=60₹
