■This world of ours, created by God, is a big enough place, yet the saddest thing about it is the most of us are unhappy.
■If we had ever enquired about how many people were properly fed and dressed, we must have found that the rumber was disappointingly small as compared with the vast number of people who are semi-starved, homeless, diseased and uncared for. I certainly do not feel that a world such as this, which by the pen of the poet has been described as a brave, glorious world has at all bravery or glory in it. It is all so dull, ugly and brutal.
■ The world is in a bad way. Wars threaten to sign the death-warrant of humanity. Poverty and unemployment crush the millions.
■ To my mind there are eight things which can bring about a new order in the world, I believe can promote to give my magic formulas.
■ Hence my idea of a happy world would contain eight basic ideas, without which it is not possible to make most people happy. In the first place, I would ban recurring cycle of wars. They are an evil pure and simple. Of course, I under-stand the idea of defensive war but aggressive or imperialistic wars have no place in my scheme. They are national waste and results only in the misery and degradation of the common people. Hence freedom from unnecessary war is the corner stone of my happy world.
■In the second place, I would have a planned state with a planned economy. The old system of government, carrying only for law and order, and leaving the people to the jaws of cut-throat competition amongst themselves, would not do. A purely bureaucratic or capitalistic system has been the curse of the world for over a thousand years. We have suffered the nation, unemployment and exploitation of human labour. I would have a socialist state with opportunities for all. So economic freedom and social equality are the second pillar of my state.
■In the third place, I would have ideas of secular democracy introduced. I mean, there must be freedom of speech, thought and conscience. Religion should not be a qualification or disqualification for citizenship. Nor should women be looked upon as good or chattels simply because of their sex. In my happy world, I should like to go a step further. I would give women and more exalted position than men, and make them judge, speaker, ambassadors, if not commanders-in-chief.
■In the fourth place, I should have an international body to work for international co-ordination and adjustment. In the age of the Sputniks, the world is indeed one, and we can keep the world truly as one only when e have a proper machinery to co-ordinate the parts to one central body, call it U.N.O. or One World Government or what you will.
