16 g of oxygen and 3 g of hydrogen are mixed and kept at 760

mm of Hg pressure and 0° C. The total volume occupied by

the mixture will be nearly (d) 44800ml

- 16 g oxygen = 0.5 moles oxygen

- 3 g hydrogen = 1.5 moles hydrogen

- Total no of moles, n = 0.5 + 1.5 = 2

- P = 760 mm Hg = 1 atm

- T = 0°C = 273.15 K

- R = 0.0821 L atm/ mol K

- V = ?

- using ideal gas equation

PV = nRT

We get

V = nRT/P

V = (2×0.0821×273.15)/1

V = 44.8 litres (approx.)

V = 44800 ml

- so option (d) is correct
