16 gm Ch4 is mixed with 64 gm SO2 at 25 degree celsius. The total pressure of mixture is 40 atm. Find partial pressure of Ch4 gas?​

Let us take x gm of each of the components. 

Molecular Mass of SO2=64

∴ moles of SO2=64x 

Molecular Mass of CH4=16

∴ moles of CH4=16x 

Molecular Mass of O2=32

∴ moles of O2=32x 

Total Moles = 64x+16x+32x=647x

Mole fraction of CH4=7x/64x/16=74

Hence, partial pressure of CH4 = mole fraction × total pressure = 74×2.1=1.2 atm
