Answer: Hydrogen gas is released in both experiment.

As we know that when metals react with an acid , salt is formed and hydrogen gas is released.

So , when zinc reacts with hydrochloric acid the following reaction takes place :

Zinc + Hydrochloric acid - Zinc chloride + hydrogen gas

Similarly , when zinc reacts with Sodium Hydroxide the following reaction takes place :

Zinc + Sodium Hydroxide - Sodium Zincate + hydrogen gas

Hence , the common observation in both experiment is the release of hydrogen gas .
