Answer:

Among all the given alcohols option(a) that is propanol will be most soluble in water.

Explanation:

Given: 4 alcohols are given in the question that is propanol, hexanol, pentanol and butanol.

To Find: Among all the given alcohols which is most soluble in water.

Solution: Solubility of any alcohol in water depends on the length of carbon chain more bulky is the carbon chain attached to alcohol less soluble will be that alcohol in water.

This is due to the fact that solubility of any alcohol in water depends on extent of hydrogen bonding between alcohol and water and with increase in  carbon chain the extend of hydrogen bonding between alcohol and water decreases and hence solubility also decreases. The lower alcohols are very soluble in water, so propanol is the most soluble.

In the above following option, propanol is the only alcohol that  is miscible in the water all others are have a certain level of solubility.

So, among all the given alcohols option(a) that is propanol will be most soluble in water.
