16 years ago:

Let my age be x

My grandfather = 9x

Present age:

my age = x + 16

my grandfather = 9x + 16

8 years later:

my age = x + 16 + 8 = x + 24

my grandfather = 9x + 16 + 8 = 9x + 24

Solve x:

9x + 24 = 3(x + 24)

9x + 24 = 3x + 72

6x = 48

x = 8

Find the present age:

my age = x + 16 = 8 + 16 = 24

my grandfather = 9x + 16 = 9(8) + 16 = 88

Find the ratio:

Ratio : my age : my grandfather's age = 24 : 88

Simplify by dividing by 8:

Ratio : my age : my grandfather's age = 3 : 11

Answer; The ratio is 3 : 11
