pitch of DNA is 34 A

GIVEN DNA IS 238 A

so number of pitches =238÷34=7 pitches

1 pitch = 10 base pairs

so 7 pitches =7×10=70 base pairs=70×2=140 bases

number of adenine=number of thymine=40.

adenine and thymine has 2 hydrogen bonds.

so total hydrogen bonds =40×2=80 bonds.

total number of adenine+thymine=80

then total number of cytosine +guanine=140-80=60

number of cytosine=number of guanine=60÷2=30

cytosine and guanine has three hydrogen bonds.

so total hydrogen bonds=30×3=90 bonds.

sum total of bonds= 90+80=170 hydrogen bonds
