Answer:

(b) 40 and 10

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the present of the father be x years.

And, that of the son's age be y years.

So, A.TQ.

=> x + y = 50

=> x = 50 - y .... (a)

Also,

5 years ago,

Age of father = (x - 5) years

Age of the Son = (y - 5) years

So, A.T.Q.

=> (x - 5) = 7(y - 5)

=> x - 5 = 7y - 35

=> x - 7y = -35 + 5

=> x - 7y = -30

=> x - 7y + 30 = 0 .... (i)

Now,

Substituting the value of x in equation (a) in equation (i), we get,

=> 50 - y - 7y + 30 = 0

=> 50 - 8y + 30 = 0

=> 80 - 8y = 0

=> 80 = 8y

=> y = 80/8

=> y = 10

Putting this value of y in equation (a), we get,

=> x = 50 - 10

=> x = 40

Therefore,

  • Age of the father = 40 years
  • Age of the Son = 10 years
