-- ethanol reacts with sodium to form Sodium ethoxide and hydrogen. ethanoic acid reacts with metal to form methyl ethanoate and hydrogen.
--ethanol does not give brisk effervescence with sodium hydrogen carbonate whereas ethanoic acid gives brisk effervescence with sodium hydrogen carbonate.
--ethanol is neutral towards pH as it does not furnish any hydrogen ions whereas ethanoic acid shows acid behaviour although it is a weak acid.

c) soaps are Sodium and potassium salt of long chain carboxylic acid. detergents are ammonium and sulphonate salt of long chain carboxylic acid.
Detergents provide a better cleansing action as it do not forms scum in hard water..
