Hemoglobin is the protein molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body (i.e. the tissues). There it releases the oxygen to permit aerobic respiration to provide energy to power the functions of the organism in the process called metabolism. It also plays a role in the transportation of carbon dioxide from the tissues of the body back to the lungs. We breathe in to inhale oxygen that mixes with our blood in the lungs (alveolar sack) and is then transported to different parts of our body. The cells after using the oxygen for various works produce Carbon Dioxide which then mixes with blood and is carried by hemoglobin back to the lungs for its removal from our body. That is how hemoglobin(transporter protein) play a vital role in breathing.
