Answer:

Haemoglobin is found in Red blood cells. The red colour of blood is due to them. Haemoglobin combines with oxygen and, helps to transport oxygen from the lungs to the cells. So, if Haemoglobin is reduced, there would be a difficulty in breathing as oxygen carried will get reduced. Haemoglobin is a protein, by the way.

GIVEN :

  • Ramu was facing breathing problems
  • Ramu's haemoglobin content was less than normal range

Solution :

  • Haemoglobin , is Haem ( iron part) + globin(Protein part).
  • Haemoglobin is a transport metalloprotein { transport - gas , and metalloprotein because it is made up of iron and protein }

Role of Haemoglobin in breathing -

  1. When we inspire , we take air into our body. This air is mixture of nitrogen, oxygen and Carbon dioxide along with other gases present in atmosphere
  2. When air reach lung alveoli, the flowing blood in capillaries contain haemoglobin in RBC.
  3. The air diffuses from alveoli into capillaries
  4. In capillaries at alveoli level, the oxygen get combined to Haemoglobin , this is know as oxygenation of Haemoglobin. {Hb + O₂ ➝ HbO₂ }
  5. This blood then travel to different part of body
  6. At tissue level oxygen is released from haemoglobin, this process is known as deoxygenation of haemoglobin { HbO₂ ➝ Hb + O₂ }

Thus we can say that , haemoglobin act as carrier for oxygen from lung alveoli to tissue

Note -

As , Ramu's haemoglobin content is lover than the normal range , his blood is unable to supply enough oxygen to body tissue. That why he's having problem in breathing.
