(x + y)(x - y) = 7

x + y = 7 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: ........(ii)

Adding eq.(i) and (ii),

2x = 8

x = 4

Putting the value of x in eq.(i),

4 - y = 1

y = 3

Diagonal of rectangle

 \sqrt{ {l}^{2}  +  {b}^{2} }

 =  \sqrt{ {x}^{2} +  {y}^{2}  }

 =  \sqrt{ {4}^{2} +  {3}^{2}  }

 =  \sqrt{16 + 9}

 =  \sqrt{25}

= 5 cm
