On 1st January 1845, Govind Raghunath started and published the first copy of what was considered to be the first Hindi newspaper, or rather the first newspaper in a Hindi speaking area.

It consisted of many other dialects such as Arabic and Persian. The newspaper was called 'Banaras Akhbar' in Hindi which can be translated to 'Banaras Newspaper' in English.
