Given

Volume of water =40 m ³

 Time, t =15 min

Height , h =20 m

To find:

Electric power consumed by the pump

Solution:

Volume of water = 40 m³

t=15 min=15×60 s=900s; Height, h=40 m

Efficiency,  η of the pump is 80%

Density of water =10 ³kg /m³

 ∴ Mass of water pumped = Volume × Density

⇒(40 m  ³) (10)³  kg /m³)    = 40000 kg

P  output  =  W/t = mgh/t = (4000kg × 10m/s² × 20m )/ 900s

=17,777.77 W

Hence, the electrical energy consumed by the pump is 17,777.77 W
