Answer:

Hey There!

2(x + 1) = 4

Divide both sides by 2

 \frac{2(x + 1)}{2} = \frac{4}{2} \\

Simplify

 \frac{ \cancel{2}(x + 1)}{ \cancel{2}} = \frac{ { \cancel{4}} \: \: ^{2} }{ \cancel{2}} \\ \\ = (x + 1) = 2

Subtract 1 from both sides

x + 1 - 1 = 2 - 1 \\ \\ = x = 1
