On winter nights, as the atmospheric pressure starts falling below 4°C, water in the pipe lines expand and exert a great pressure on the pipes, causing them to burst.

Answer:

Pressure

The force acting on a unit area of a surface is called Pressure.

Pressure = force / area on which it acts

Unit of Pressure = Pascal (Pa)

✦ When the temperature decreases the pressure on a particular substances increases.

✦ When the temperature increases the pressure on a particular substances decreases.

Like that:

When the temperature decreases in the cold countries the pressure increased.

The water that are flowing through the pipe also freezing because of the pressure is high.

When the pressure inside the pipe becomes more than the pressure of pipe and crosses it's limit . After that it's bursts.

( It depends on the temperature )
